Runa

Meet Runa!

Runa is a joyful and loving four-year-old Siberian Husky from Bountiful, UT, who is ready to find her new loving home. With her striking beige and black coat and one brilliant blue eye, she will capture your heart at first glance. Despite being born with only one eye and experiencing mild neurological challenges, Runa is full of life and love to give.

What makes Runa special?

Runa has a unique story of resilience and playfulness. She’s happiest when running, exploring, and playing tug of war—her favorite games. While she hasn’t had many opportunities to socialize with other dogs, Runa lights up when she sees them pass by or runs along the dog park's outskirts. She still has the spirit of a sled dog and loves to pull on walks, making her a perfect match for active families who enjoy outdoor activities.

Runa’s Personality:

Although Runa is initially shy around men, she warms up with time and patience. She is gentle and friendly, though she does have a tendency to guard her resources, such as food or bones, which may trigger protective behavior. In a previous situation, Runa did have two biting incidents related to resource guarding. It’s important for her future caregivers to be aware of this, but also know that she thrives in a calm, patient environment where she can feel secure. A thoughtful and gradual integration process will help Runa settle into her new home more smoothly.

Training and Routine:

Runa has received obedience training and responds to commands like stay, yes, no, and wait. She is house-trained and can be left alone for work or school hours without any trouble. Although she doesn’t stick to a set routine, Runa thrives with a fenced yard where she can safely indulge in her love of the outdoors.

A Few Challenges:

Runa's neurological deficits mean she experiences some tremors, but this doesn't stop her from enjoying life to the fullest. Her health is otherwise excellent, and she’s ready to bring her playful energy into her new family’s life. Additionally, Runa’s previous experience suggests that she may require some support with resource guarding. Positive reinforcement and patient training will help her continue to make progress in this area.

The Ideal Home:

Runa would thrive with a patient and understanding family who appreciates her quirks and is willing to give her time to adjust. She may do well with another dog after a slow introduction, and a fenced yard would allow her to safely explore her love of running. It will be essential for her new family to respect her boundaries and provide a calm environment, especially when it comes to food or treasured items.
