Meet Cane!
A loyal, two-and-a-half-year-old Anatolian Shepherd mix from Marthasville, MO, whose alert and protective nature shines as brightly as his fawn coat with striking black and white accents. Cane is a big-hearted, large companion weighing around 80 pounds, always ready for an outdoor adventure, whether it’s wandering through a yard or leaping into the car for a spirited ride. His low-maintenance personality and calm demeanor when left alone make him an ideal companion for someone who values both loyalty and independence in a canine friend.
Cane has some unique needs when it comes to his care. He has shown resource guarding behaviors around food, which have led to bites in situations where he felt his food was threatened. For his well-being and the comfort of his new family, Cane needs a home without young children or other male dogs. He generally does well with female dogs, though his preference is for calm, one-on-one interactions rather than bustling environments. Feeding Cane in a kennel, away from distractions, has proven helpful, and he’ll thrive with a pet parent who respects his boundaries during mealtimes.
This loyal boy knows a few commands like “sit,” “lay down,” and his favorite, “to the truck,” showing his eagerness for new experiences and a bond with his human. Though he needs a bit of training reinforcement, Cane is attentive and responsive, especially when there’s a car ride or a gentle pet on the horizon. His temperament makes him an affectionate companion for someone who appreciates the little quirks that make Cane, well, Cane!
Cane’s endearing side shines through in his love for fetch, his enjoyment of being petted, and his knack for loyalty. While he’s selective in his interactions, once Cane trusts you, he’ll be a devoted friend who will stay by your side through life’s ups and downs.
