Lucy

Meet Lucy!

A tender and spirited eight-year-old Indian Pariah Dog from Towson, MD, whose sun-kissed tan coat and almond-shaped eyes shine with resilience, warmth, and a uniquely soulful charm.

Lucy is a little dog with a big heart, known for snuggling under your arm like a sleepy child and performing her own version of leafy spa therapy by walking slowly under the dangling leaves of a spider plant. At just 30 pounds, this petite explorer balances bursts of playful energy with long lounging sessions in sunny windows—often perched on the couch like a feline queen surveying her domain.

She adores people, especially children, and thrives in calm, quiet homes where she can enjoy one-on-one companionship. She’s crate trained, fully house-trained, and completely at peace when left alone—often dozing contentedly on the couch or bed. Long walks in the woods, squeaky toys, and car rides with her head blissfully out the window are among her favorite joys!

Lucy is a complex but deeply rewarding companion. After surviving a traumatic attack by a pack of dogs and a car accident in her early life, she now finds other animals—especially unfamiliar dogs—overwhelming and stressful. She has a bite history involving other dogs—once while guarding a treat from a dog friend, and another time when a neighbor's dog who frequently antagonized her breached the fence. Though she has a few select dog friends, she needs to be the only pet in a home with a secure, fenced yard. Lucy has strong territorial instincts, a high prey drive, and is highly reactive to unfamiliar dogs. With humans, she’s affectionate and welcoming, especially when her trusted caregiver is present to guide her.

She lives with Exocrine Pancreatic Insufficiency (EPI), requiring a prescription diet with added enzymes, plus daily medications and supplements, all of which she takes like a champ. She also manages Chronic Ulcerative Periodontal Stomatitis with regular dental care and is on a behavior-support regimen from a veterinary behaviorist. Fireworks and thunderstorms are tough for her, but Gabapentin helps ease those scary moments.

What Lucy needs most is a loving, patient person—someone who understands her fear, values her joyful quirks, and is dedicated to her medical care. Could you be the one to share your heart and home with this soulful little couch cat-dog?

To make sure that Lucy has a great start with her new family, we have a canine behaviorist available for a free consultation.
