Meet Buddy!
A sweet and spirited six-year-and-eight-month-old Australian Cattle Dog/Border Collie mix currently living in Sun City Center, FL, whose heart beats for play, connection, and bedtime cuddles beneath the covers.
With his black and white coat sprinkled with black tiny spots, Buddy is as striking as he is affectionate. Weighing in at a sturdy 52 pounds, he’s full of joyful energy and thrives on activity, especially if it involves his beloved frisbee or trusty green ball! Give him some open space and he’ll happily play fetch until the sun sets. But don’t be fooled by his athleticism; once night falls, Buddy transforms into a gentle snuggle bug, gently tapping your arm with his paw to request a spot under the covers. His favorite place to drift off!
Buddy has had a tough run with some traumatic encounters with other dogs, which have left him fearful and skittish. While he used to enjoy canine company, he now feels safest in a dog-free environment. Trainers have confirmed that his reactivity is trauma-based, and though he's made some progress, he’ll need a family who can provide a calm, dog-free space where he won’t feel threatened.
That said, Buddy's love for people hasn’t dimmed a bit. He’s amazing with kids, even little ones as young as four, and greets new human friends with a tail wag and a smile! He knows his basic commands like “sit,” “stay,” and “lay down,” and is both house-trained and crate-trained. Buddy does experience a bit of separation anxiety, but after a few minutes alone, he settles and relaxes.
What makes Buddy truly special is the warmth he brings into a home. His goofy charm, playful spirit, and unwavering affection! He needs a patient, loving guardian who understands his past and can offer a peaceful, active life filled with play and closeness.
