Meet Remi!
A spirited two-year-old Black Mouth Cur currently living in Manhattan, KS, whose essence is a snuggly whirlwind of energy wrapped in a warm tan coat and a whole lot of love.
Remi is the definition of a “cuddle monster”, she’s the kind of pup who believes laps are meant for sitting in, blankets are best shared, and your face should be kissed often, especially if you’re having a rough day! With her soulful eyes and deer-like bounce when excited, Remi brings joy with every wiggle and tail wag. Her affection for people knows no bounds, and she’s especially gentle when playing, even during her zoomies or a good game of tug-of-war.
This smart cookie knows “sit,” “wait,” “down,” and “leave it” (though she’s still learning the last one). “Back up” might get confused with “down” now and then, but hey, nobody’s perfect! What she lacks in formal training, she makes up for in her eagerness to please. Remi thrives when given consistent structure and positive reinforcement. However, she does need continued training to help manage her leash reactivity. Walks can be challenging in areas with frequent dog traffic, so she needs a confident caregiver who can support her and help her feel more secure on leash.
In her current home, Remi has had multiple escalating conflicts with a resident female dog, primarily triggered by resource guarding. These conflicts began around food, toys, and access to people, and have unfortunately led to serious fights. While she was able to peacefully coexist at times with a small male dog in the home, her interactions with other dogs have become unpredictable. Remi needs to be the only pet in a household that understands her need for clear boundaries and can provide structure. She’s incredibly loyal, intuitive, and just wants to be close to her person, preferably under the covers!
Remi is fully house-trained, spayed, microchipped, and up to date on all her vaccinations. She’s not one to be left alone for too long, boredom can lead her into a little mischief (like nibbling on shoes or chewing stray electronics), so a family with time to engage her mind and body would be ideal. She’s got a strong bark for her size and alert instincts, making her a reliable little watchdog. She’s also an escape artist. Doors, gates, and yards need to be secure, as her recall is still in progress and she cannot be off leash at this time.
Are you ready to welcome a loyal snugglebug into your heart and home, where every day starts and ends with love (and maybe a few happy hops)?
