Meet Nacho!
A bold and sensitive four-year-old Xoloitzcuintli currently in Austin, TX, whose jet-black, hairless charm is only matched by his deep loyalty and cuddly heart. If you've ever dreamed of life with a real-life Dante from Coco, here’s your chance! Nacho brings all the charisma, curiosity, and cuddle potential of this ancient Mexican breed, wrapped in a sleek, warm body perfect for snuggling.
Known as a national treasure in his homeland and once cherished by Frida Kahlo herself, the Xoloitzcuintli is a breed with a rich history and a noble soul. Nacho is a true representative: intelligent, watchful, and deeply bonded with his humans. He may take a few minutes to assess new people, but once you're in his circle, you’ve got a ride-or-die companion who will happily curl up on your legs, lap, or even shoulder. They say that Xolos are happiest in a pile and Nacho agrees, 1000%!
At about 45 pounds, Nacho is a medium-sized buddy with a big heart and a sensitive spirit. He thrives on structure, predictability, and the loving presence of a calm, adult household. Because of his alert and perceptive nature, Nacho can become overstimulated in environments with lots of noise, unexpected activity, or sudden transitions, especially when multiple things are happening at once. In these moments he may react with barking, growling, or snapping, not out of aggression, but as a way to communicate his need for space and support. Crowded or chaotic situations, such as small children running around or unfamiliar visitors arriving quickly, can heighten his stress. With guidance and consistent, positive reinforcement, Nacho is learning to navigate these moments more smoothly.
He’s also leash reactive, especially around other dogs, and may bark or lunge if he feels overwhelmed or unable to retreat. With experienced handling and continued positive reinforcement, he’s shown he can walk calmly in lower-stimulation settings.
Nacho enjoys chasing squeaky, crinkly toys and stretching his legs in short, well-managed dog park visits. He’s selective with other dogs, generally neutral with cats, and will always appreciate a peaceful routine with lots of quality time. He’s crate-trained, house-trained, and bilingual in his commands, responding to “sit” and “sientate” with equal grace! His hairless nature means some minor skin and ear care is part of his spa routine, and he’s managing occasional acne with ease, thanks to gentle treatment and care.
The perfect match for Nacho? A guardian or couple who is home often, understands anxiety in dogs, and is committed to his continued growth. Are you the one who’ll join Nacho’s cuddle pile and write the next beautiful chapter together?
