Meet Bear!
A spirited two-year-old German Shepherd mix currently in Rancho Cucamonga, CA, whose essence is a radiant blend of loyalty, laughter, and tan and black beauty crowned with a charming white patch on her chest. Weighing about 40 pounds and fully grown to a lovely medium size, Bear is a high energy girl who lives for connection and play!
If you toss a ball, she is ready for action all day long! Balls are her absolute favorite, and she will happily chase, retrieve, and show off her impressive “drop it” skills with pride. She knows commands such as crate, outside, no, and drop it, and she is both crate-trained and house-trained. She settles nicely when left alone for short periods and follows a consistent routine like a true professional.
Inside the home, Bear transforms into a world class cuddle champion! She adores lounging on the couch, climbing into laps, giving gentle hugs, and covering her favorite people with sweet kisses. She thrives on close companionship and bonds deeply with her pet parent. Her goofy personality shines through in the way she wiggles with excitement and proudly parades her ball around like a prized treasure!
Behaviorally, Bear is good with people and has never bitten a human. Her reactivity is primarily toward other dogs. She can be very alert to her surroundings and will bark at noises, visitors, and activity outside the home. When she barks at people inside the home, it is usually out of curiosity or excitement and a desire to greet and cuddle, even though her bark may sound intense. She may also bark protectively at unfamiliar people outside, such as a gardener, due to natural guarding instincts. She does settle with guidance, and with continued socialization and positive reinforcement training, her caregiver believes her reactivity will continue to improve.
Bear has been safe around the children in her family, including a child with special needs. However, she has been involved in repeated altercations with another female dog in the home. Because of this history, she needs placement as the only dog in a secure, fenced environment. Bear would benefit from an experienced pet parent who is comfortable with training and managing reactive behavior while continuing to build her confidence.
She needs a new loving home where she can be the center of attention, soaking up affection and sharing her big heart without competition. Are you ready to toss the next ball and let this beautiful girl curl up beside you?
