A joyful almost four-year-old Boxer/American Pitbull Terrier mix currently in Canton, NC, whose lively spirit and sleek black coat with a bright white chest patch make every day feel like a celebration.
Tula is a medium sized girl who weighs about 50 pounds and carries herself with the athletic bounce of a dog who loves movement, connection, and fun with her favorite people. Her greeting style is unforgettable, full body tail wags, happy wiggles, and an enthusiastic little 'arrrooooo' that sounds like she simply must tell you how excited she is to see you!
Playtime is high on Tula's list of favorite activities, especially a good game of fetch followed by snuggles close to her favorite human. After a day filled with walks, play, and learning opportunities she happily curls up beside her person for cozy rest, sometimes sharing soft snores that sound like the sweetest white noise.
Tula is smart, attentive, and eager to learn with positive reinforcement. She already knows sit, down, leave it, focus, and has excellent recall, which makes training sessions fun and rewarding for everyone involved. Tula is the definition of a velcro dog and happiest when she can simply be near her favorite person. Whether you're working from home, relaxing on the couch, heading out for a car ride, or even walking from room to room, Tula would love nothing more than to be your constant companion! She forms deep bonds with her people and thrives on close connection, making her an especially wonderful match for someone looking for loyal, everyday companionship.
Tula is friendly with strangers, wonderful with children, and enjoys the company of other dogs. Tula spent several days with an experienced pet sitter who cares for both dogs and kittens, and she surprised everyone with how gentle and respectful she was. The sitter observed that Tula seems genuinely interested in making friends with cats and may simply lack feline social skills rather than having any desire to harm them. With patient introductions and a confident cat or kitten to help show her the ropes, Tula has shown very encouraging signs that she can peacefully share her home with feline companions!
Tula can sometimes become reactive when separated from other dogs by barriers, particularly when dogs pass by a chain link fence. In those moments her excitement and frustration can bubble over, and she has occasionally redirected that energy toward the other resident dog. The interactions have not caused injury, and the other dog has responded with appropriate communication, helping guide those moments. With thoughtful management and continued positive reinforcement, Tula continues learning calmer ways to handle these situations.
Despite these occasional moments of frustration around barriers, Tula has demonstrated that she can do very well with other dogs in appropriate settings and enjoys having canine companions around her.
