A lively two-and-a-half-year-old Australian Cattle Dog mix currently in Wayne, NJ, whose red speckled coat mirrors his energetic and attentive spirit. He is a medium sized boy around 35 pounds who thrives on connection and loves being right by your side, happily keeping you company throughout the day.
Tex is wonderfully trained and responsive, knowing commands like sit, stay, leave it, and place, and he enjoys learning through positive reinforcement and structure. He is house-trained, crate-trained, and settles nicely when left alone, watching the world from the window until his people return. Daily walks, games of fetch, and joyful runs where he can stretch his legs are some of his favorite ways to spend time!
Tex is affectionate and loyal, forming strong bonds with his caregivers and showing his love by staying close and patiently waiting for shared moments. He is friendly with other dogs and brings a playful, social energy to every interaction!
Like many in his breed, Tex has a natural herding instinct, especially when children are running, and he would benefit from a home that understands this trait and can guide him with continued training and thoughtful management. In a couple of situations involving fast-moving children, Tex became overstimulated and nipped, which reflects his instinct to herd and slow movement. With the support of training, he has shown that with structure, consistency, and positive reinforcement, he can make great progress and feel more at ease.
Tex would do well in a new loving home with adults or older teens who enjoy an active lifestyle and can provide regular exercise, engagement, and ongoing learning opportunities.
