A spirited one-and-a-half-year-old Shepherd mix currently in Aliso Viejo, CA, whose expressive tricolor face, adorable little eyebrows, and affectionate nature make this 30-pound girl unforgettable.
Bella is a cuddly constant companion who forms deep bonds with the people she trusts. Once you are part of her circle, expect enthusiastic greetings, happy wiggles, affectionate rubs, and a devoted shadow who wants to stay close! She is smart, playful, medium-energy, and wonderfully treat-motivated. Chasing balls, racing through fields, watching squirrels and lizards, enjoying car rides, and savoring dental chews are all high on Bella’s list of favorite things.
This clever girl has completed formal obedience training, including a two-week board-and-train program. She knows sit and come, has good leash manners, and demonstrates reliable recall. Positive reinforcement and tasty rewards are excellent ways to keep building her confidence and skills.
Bella is very social with other dogs and loves canine playmates, although a calm companion would be more compatible than a reactive dog who frequently barks. Her compatibility with cats has not been assessed. Bella needs an adult-only, quiet, low-traffic home without children and with few visitors.
Bella is protective of trusted people and can become fearful when unfamiliar people enter her space, approach closely or loudly, or run from her. She has two previous bite incidents involving unfamiliar people. Her future pet parent needs experience with behavior management and must be committed to secure doors and gates, leash management, separation from visitors, slow introductions, and allowing Bella to meet new people at her own pace.
In neutral environments, Bella has shown that she can comfortably be around unfamiliar people who give her space. She also completed a 10-day kennel stay without incident. She tends to warm up to women more quickly than men.
