Meet Willow!
A spirited six-year-old American Staffordshire Terrier currently in Wake Forest, NC, whose affectionate heart and adventurous personality come wrapped in a striking black-and-white coat. At about 60 pounds, this sweet girl is happiest when her day includes plenty of outdoor exploration followed by serious couch cuddling! Long walks, hiking trails, and splashing in water are Willow’s happy places, and after exercising, she gladly settles beside you for affection.
Willow is a high-energy companion who thrives with a predictable routine and plenty of activity. Give her a good morning walk or hike, and she is ready to relax afterward, though she will happily remind you when evening-walk time arrives. Her favorite indoor pastimes include destroying stuffies, enjoying filled bones, Whimzee chews, burrowing under the covers for cuddles, and watching 'The Great British Bake Off' when her family steps out!
Beneath Willow’s tough-girl presentation is an anxious, sensitive soul who needs patience while getting comfortable with new people. On leash, she is reactive toward unfamiliar people and prefers approximately six feet of personal space. Treats are an excellent friendship builder, and once Willow feels safe, her wonderfully affectionate side shines! Loud noises, thunderstorms, and fireworks can worry her. She takes daily Trazodone for anxiety and Apoquel for allergies.
Willow needs a child-free home with no plans for children. She has shown resource guarding around food when approached by a toddler and has growled when uncomfortable. In one incident, she snapped when the toddler put hands near her face, grazing the child’s mouth without drawing blood or requiring medical care. Immediately afterward, Willow approached the toddler and gave her kisses. She has never shown this behavior toward an adult. Willow is dog selective, so a home without other dogs is best, although she has successfully warmed up to familiar dogs. Her compatibility with cats is unknown.
Willow is spayed, house-trained, microchipped, vaccinated, and has received formal training. A fenced yard is preferred, along with pet parents who can offer structure, positive reinforcement, exercise, and patience. Her reward for earning your trust is enormous: enthusiastic kisses, under-the-cover snuggles, outdoor adventures, and one exceptionally devoted couch companion!
