Meet Isla!
A cuddly three-year-old Labrador Retriever mix currently in Milford, CT, whose affectionate spirit comes wrapped in a sleek black coat with charming white accents.
At 46 pounds, Isla is a medium-sized girl who loves staying close to her favorite people! Her happiest moments include curling up for serious cuddle sessions, playing with balls and Nylabones, enjoying long walks, and simply keeping her people company. She knows sit, stay, here, go to bed, drop it, off, and down, and she is comfortable relaxing in her crate when left alone for short periods.
Isla is seeking a very specific caring environment where she can feel secure. Children are a significant fear trigger for her, and she must live in an adult-only home with no children of any age. She has bitten a child who approached her during mealtime, and a board-certified behaviorist has identified her responses as fear based and unpredictable around children. Isla has never shown this behavior toward adults.
She also needs to be the only dog. Although she can play happily with another dog, she has had unpredictable conflicts with the dog in her current home. She is nervous around cats and prefers keeping her distance. An experienced, attentive pet parent who understands fearful dogs, respects boundaries, and can provide structure and positive reinforcement would help Isla navigate her next chapter.
Isla is spayed, microchipped, house-trained, and current on vaccinations. She requires Proin twice daily for urinary incontinence, which has successfully prevented breakthrough accidents. Food allergies also mean her diet is non-negotiable: she eats Purina Hydrolyzed Vegetarian food and enjoys suitable treats such as plant-based dog treats, peanut butter, cheese, and veggies.
Moving will be a big adjustment for this sensitive girl, so patience and consistency will be especially important while she settles in. Given time and space, Isla’s wonderfully mushy side can shine. For the right adult family, days with Isla can mean walks, playtime, cozy evenings, and a devoted cuddle buddy who would happily snuggle as close as possible!
