Meet Hazel!
A spirited five-and-a-half-year-old Labrador Retriever currently in Council Bluffs, IA, whose chocolate brown coat and larger-than-life personality make her an unforgettable companion. Weighing 69 pounds, this affectionate girl is a lovable bundle of energy, enthusiasm, and hilarious antics, ready to bring laughter and adventure to an active family!
Hazel approaches life at full speed, especially when greeting her favorite people! Her enthusiastic welcomes have earned her the nickname "fur missile," and she occasionally forgets just how big she is. She loves running, fetching balls, squeaking her favorite pig toy, and enjoying treats. Food is definitely her love language!
This clever girl knows sit, shake, down, come, and kennel. She's house-trained, crate-trained, and comfortable spending short periods alone. Hazel learns quickly and responds well to food rewards, making positive reinforcement training a wonderful opportunity to strengthen your bond. She needs continued guidance with jumping, door manners, food boundaries, and car rides.
Hazel enjoys other dogs, particularly playful companions who can match her enthusiasm. However, her exuberance may overwhelm senior or fragile dogs. She's affectionate with children but can accidentally knock little ones over, so families with older, steady-footed children would be more suitable. Her compatibility with cats is unknown, and her strong instinct to chase wildlife means a securely fenced yard and attentive supervision are essential.
Indoors, Hazel is a devoted companion who loves being close to her people, preferably sharing the couch! Her dramatic sighs, amusing grunts, and occasional purr-like noises provide endless entertainment.
In 2024, Hazel became involved in a dog fight that was initiated by another dog. While her caregiver was separating the dogs, Hazel accidentally bit her during the commotion. This was an isolated incident, and Hazel has never otherwise shown aggression toward people. She has generally enjoyed positive interactions with other dogs and would benefit from thoughtful introductions, attentive supervision, and continued positive reinforcement training.
Spayed, microchipped, and vaccinated, Hazel needs an active, patient family committed to daily exercise, companionship, and continued learning. She thrives indoors with her people rather than spending extended periods outside alone. Ready for a chocolate-colored whirlwind of affection, laughter, and unforgettable adventures?
